Wake up, get coffee, make breakfast, dress the children, school drops, and get to work….all before 9am. So where exactly does the gym fit in the schedule again? Hitting the sweat box on a daily basis to burn those calories is ideal for some, but doesn’t work for all. What if the traditional gym just isn’t your cup of tea? Are there alternatives to getting fit? The answer is yes, there are several ways to stay healthy and in shape, all while enjoying the process. Here are a few ways to step out of the gym, and into some different activities that can make your workout enjoyable for you.
Put the pedal to the medal, and join a spin class. If you enjoy an upbeat, intensity filled, high energy vibe when shedding and toning that body of yours, a spin class could be exactly what you are looking for. No matter what age you are, and what level you may be at in your workout journey, indoor cycling is always guaranteed to burn that fat off, get that heart rate up, and leave you wanting more. If you want a good cardio workout and want to switch your normal routine up a bit, this is the activity for you.
Find the nearest set of stairs, and climb. Repetition is your best friend when trying to shed unwanted fat, or even if you are just trying to maintain your body. Find a nice set of stairs, indoor or outdoor, and do a few sets up and down. You can walk or run, but the point is to get up and move. Don’t underestimate the power of just putting your body in motion and getting that movement in for the day. Get up and do it now so your body can thank you later.
Hop in the pool. This one is a no brainer. Not only is swimming a complete full body work out, but it builds your endurance along with toning all your muscles. Hit the water, do a few laps, and keep it moving with the rest of your day.
Go for a hike or a run. Sometimes sticking to the basic is all you need to be successful. Whether you go full sprint, slight jog, or just a power walk, getting those steps in for the day is going to be beneficial to stay fit. Take 30 minutes, pop in your favorite tunes in your headphones, and just take a walk. This is good for your health, and good for the soul to have some well deserved alone time.
Just dance. Lastly, but certainly not the least, get that heart rate up by leaving it all on the dance floor……or in most case your living room floor when nobody is watching. Dance your heart out. Freestyle it, choreograph it, youtube it, do some zumba, or do whatever else you have to do to get that blood pumping. Sometimes all it takes is for you to hear your favorite song, catch the beat, and get to work. And who doesn’t like a good workout that they can thoroughly enjoy!
These are just a few tips, but there are plenty more that you can do to make sure that you are staying fit, and healthy, with activities that work for you and your lifestyles. The hardest part is just getting started, so get up and stick with it because you got this!
